TEEN TOBACCO USE PREVENTION AND CESSATION INITIATIVE - TRU (Tobacco. Reality. Unfiltered.)
The TTUPC initiative is highlighted by a well-received mass media campaign called Tobacco.Reality.Unfiltered (TRU). Research shows that confirmed awareness of the TRU campaign among 11-17 year olds is better than 50% statewide, and teen recognition of the campaign continues to increase annually.
Most recently, TRU began addressing a troubling trend – NC teens are using spit tobacco at an increasing rate, almost double the national average. By airing hard-hitting, groundbreaking TRU Stories ads featuring a young man suffering devastating effects and disfigurement resulting from spit tobacco use, North Carolina is getting ahead of the curve and setting an example for other states to follow by identifying negative trends in tobacco use and taking decisive action.
